San Rafael lawyer Gary Ragghianti has received the lifetime achievement award from the Marin County Bar Association.

Ragghianti was honored at an event at Deer Park Villa in Fairfax on Wednesday. The association announced Ragghianti as the recipient of the award in 2020, but the event was delayed due to COVID-19, said Mee Mee Wong, executive director of the organization.

Ragghianti, whose career spans 50 years, joined three other attorneys in the 70s to start the firm of Conn, Breiner, Birkie and Ragghianti. He is a former county prosecutor and worked as the city attorney for Tiburon, Belvedere, San Rafael and Corte Madera.

Ragghianti follows Michael Dufficy and Richard Breiner, former judges, as recipients of the award.

Dennis Ryan, a former Vivalon board member and past president, has received the “Beth Ashley Award” for contributions to the organization.

The award was established in 2003 as a tribute to the longtime Independent Journal columnist. She was a board member for Whistlestop, the former name of Vivalon.

Ryan served on the board for nine years, including seven as president, providing the organization with financial and strategic leadership experience. Ryan received the award on his final day on the board in May.

Twenty-two volunteers from Marin, Sonoma and Solano counties were recognized for work with the American Red Cross North Bay chapter at an online event earlier this month.

Of the Marin residents, Hilary King received the extraordinary commitment and dedication award; Ann Eichhorn, the leadership award; Laura Ryan-Adler, the new volunteer award; Kay Tsenin, the community engagement award; Alisa Zhou, the volunteer of the year award; and Marcia Antipa, the regional volunteer of the year award.

Movers and Shakers is compiled by Adrian Rodriguez and appears weekly. Send information to arodriguez@marinij.com.
