Another big week for new horror releases is upon us, with smaller indie films dominating the week ahead of Blumhouse’s The Black Phone bringing horror back to theaters next week.

Let’s dive right into the good stuff, shall we?

Here’s all the new horror releasing June 14 – June 19, 2022!

First up, writer/director Jeff Seemann’s horror film Terror Trips is now available on VOD outlets from Mutiny Pictures, the film starring Hannah Fierman from the original V/H/S.

“Six friends start a business, providing guided tours to the shooting locations of the world’s most famous horror films, until they find the one spot where the horror is real.”

“Terror Trips is what happens if you take horror fans and put them in Eli Roth’s Hostel,” says Jonathan Barkan, Mutiny Pictures’ Head of Acquisitions.

A swamp mermaid comes up from the depths in new indie horror movie Erzulie, also released on VOD outlets today. We could always use more mermaid horror, am I right?

In Christine Chen’s Erzulie, “A reunion between four friends quickly goes awry when they find themselves face to face with ERZULIE: the swamp mermaid goddess.”

The cast of Erzulie includes Zoe Graham, Elizabeth Trieu, Courtney Olivier, Diana Rose, Leila Annastasia Scott and Jason KirkPatrick.

Genre outfit Devilworks has released The Nanny ’s Night today, a teen horror movie from Artistic Films and Panic in Frames that was written and directed by Ignacio Lopez.

The Nanny’s Night “tells the story of the coolest babysitter in town, who is revealed to be a member of a malevolent satanic sect.”

Diana Penalver (Dead Alive), Juan Carlos Vellido (Pirates of the Caribbean), David Santana (Star Wars), Javier Bodalo (The Devil’s Backbone) and Antonio Mayans (King of Kings) star.

Said to be in the tradition Wes Craven’s thriller Red Eye, Uncork’d Entertainment brings Isolated to DVD and Digital outlets today, the film directed by Tyler Lee Allen.

“The self-contained mystery/action thriller, similar in concept to Red Eye and Devil, tells of a woman that wakes up trapped inside of a room with no memory of who she is or how she got there. As she fights to find a way to escape, she ends up talking to a man in a room next to hers, that claims he, too, is trapped.

“As she questions whether or not to trust this man, she starts to remember things from her past that lead her to question not only where she might be, but also what she might be.”

KateLynn E. Newberry leads the cast.

The final new horror release for Tuesday, June 14 is Shadow of the Cat from Indican Pictures, a supernatural mystery starring Danny Trejo and directed by Jose Maria Cicala.

In the film, “Gato (Guillermo Zapata) lives with his teenage daughter Emma (Maite Lanata) and a small group of people, including Sombra (Trejo), on an isolated farm without telephones or internet. But Emma, tempted by curiosity, runs away into town one day to attend a carnival and gets her hands on a mobile phone. After she uploads a video of herself to the internet, Emma is contacted by a mysterious woman named Celia (Mónica Antonópulos) who claims to be her long-lost mother.

“What follows is a mystical tale of family, identity and broken trust set amidst the turmoil of one girl’s question about her past.”

Oscar Award-winning visual effects artist Phil Tippett (Star Wars, Starship Troopers) has completed his stop-motion epic Mad God, and it’s coming to Shudder this Thursday.

“In Mad God, a corroded diving bell descends amidst a ruined city, with an Assassin emerging from it to explore a labyrinth of bizarre landscapes inhabited by freakish denizens.”

The stop-motion animation wizard first began the project after completing work on Robocop 2 before putting it on pause to create dinosaur effects for Jurassic Park. After twenty years, the artist returned to the project once more, releasing it in the form of small shorts between 2014 and 2018. Tippett also gave behind the scenes clips of his work on his YouTube channel.

“In short, Phil Tippett is a genius, and there’s no better home for him and his visionary mind than Shudder,” said Shudder’s general manager, Craig Engler. “We’re proud to bring this sure-to-be timeless film to our members.”

“It’s been over 30 years, but thanks to the team at Tippett Studio we finally made the dream a reality,” added Tippett. “I’m proud to partner with Shudder on the release of Mad God, and it’s an honor that my original vision can now be shared with audiences across the country.”

Billed as a supernatural comedy, Gatlopp from XYZ Films is coming to On Demand and Digital on Thursday, June 16. Alberto Belli directed Gatlopp, written by Jim Mahoney.

Jim Mahoney, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Jon Bass, Sarunas J. Jackson, Shelley Hennig, John Ales, and Amy Davidson star.

“A group of old friends reunites for a nostalgic evening of fun and games after a decade apart. After one too many, they decide to play a drinking game, but it’s quickly revealed that this game comes with supernatural stakes.

“Mischief leads to mayhem, and the group realizes that if they can’t come together to win the game by sunrise, they will be forced to play for eternity – in hell.”

Park Hoon-jung‘s The Witch Part 1: The Subversion gets a sequel this Friday with The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One, which is making its way into limited theaters for the weekend.

In the sequel, “Somewhere, a girl wakes up in a huge secret laboratory. The girl accidentally meets Kyung-hee who is trying to protect their house from the gang who harasses her. When the gang bumps into the girl, they are overpowered by an unexpected power of her.

“In the meantime, the secret laboratory starts to find the missing girl. Who is this mysterious girl and why is she being chased?”

Cynthia (a.k.a. Shin Sia) stars with Park Eun-bin, Seo Eun-soo, Jin Goo, Sung Yu-been, Jo Min-soo and Lee Jong-suk. Actress Kim Da-mi reprises her role from the first film.

Emma Roberts stars alongside John Gallagher Jr. and a creepy Michael Shannon in Vertical Entertainment’s horror movie Abandoned, and it’s set for release this Friday.

Abandoned opens In Theaters June 17 and will be available on Digital and On Demand June 24.

Spencer Squire directed the film, written by Erik Patterson and Jessica Scott.

Abandoned follows the sharply intense lives of Sara (Emma Roberts), her husband Alex (John Gallagher Jr.), and their infant son as they move into a remote farmhouse, which harbors a dark, tragic history. As their home’s past is revealed, the mother’s fragility escalates to a state of psychosis that jeopardizes her own safety and that of her newborn son.

From Lionsgate, the new horror movie Mid-Century will be released in theaters this Friday, June 17, followed by a Digital, On Demand, and Blu-ray release on July 26.

Shane West (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), Sara Hay (Flesh and Bone), Stephen Lang (Don’t Breathe, Avatar), and Bruce Dern (Nebraska, The Hateful Eight) star.

In director Sonja O’Hara‘s Mid-Century, “Looking for a change one weekend, ER doctor Alice and her husband, Tom, rent a glamorous mid-century modern home designed by architect Frederick Banner. As they investigate the home, they learn that Banner and his two wives died mysteriously — yet their spirits are very much alive. As they meet Banner’s deranged son, they realize they must escape the home or succumb to its madness.”

From writer/director Stephan Rick (The Dark Side of the Moon), The Good Neighbor is on his way to your neighborhood courtesy of Screen Media, in theaters and On Demand Friday.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Vikings, The Tudors), Luke Kleintank (Crown Vic), Eloise Smyth (“Harlots,” “The Frankenstein Chronicles”) and Bruce Davison (X-Men) star.

“A nightmarish evening unfolds for neighbors David (Luke Kleintank) and Robert (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) when they accidentally hit a woman on her bike and flee the scene. While David is increasingly plagued by feelings of guilt, Robert shows no remorse and becomes overbearing and possessive. When David meets Vanessa (Eloise Smyth), the victim’s sister, he submits to a reckless passion and underlying sense of redemption before realizing Robert will do unspeakable things to protect their secret.”

‘Mid-Century’ Exclusive Clip – Shane West Comes Across Human Remains in Lionsgate Horror Movie

Shudder has announced today that they’ve acquired the award-winning documentary This Is Gwar, which will begin streaming exclusively on Shudder beginning July 21, 2022.

This Is GWAR gives rare insight into the 30-plus year career of one of the world’s most outrageous heavy metal bands, GWAR, known for their grotesque costumed characters and notoriously wild, fluid-soaked stage shows . The film world premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX, and won the 2021 Audience Award at NIGHTSTREAM.

“For more than three decades, GWAR has set the standard for heavy metal horror with larger-than-life personas and gore-filled stage shows that were unlike anything anyone had ever seen,” said Shudder General Manager Craig Engler. “But even their most ardent fans have never seen them like this, as the band and director Scott Barber reveal in moving detail the literal blood, sweat and tears that have made GWAR the true legends they are today.”

Added GWAR, “GWAR is founded on horror, humor, and heavy metal. Of course, we love Shudder! It’s our favorite. Every movie is like a home movie for us. Are you kidding me?? Monsters, demons, the undead, dinosaurs? Those are our people! GWAR and Shudder. Two terrifying tastes that taste terrifying together.”

This is GWAR is the powerful story of the iconic heavy metal art collective, as told by the humans who have fought to keep it alive for over thirty years. The feature documentary includes interviews with the band members, both past and present, and other artists, including Weird Al Yankovic, Thomas Lennon, Alex Winter, Bam Margera, and Ethan Embry, including never seen footage of legendary GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus).

This is GWAR is directed by Scott Barber (Orange Years: The Nickelodeon Story), with producers Tommy Avallone (Bill Murray Stories) and Josh Goldbloom (V/H/S/94). Executive Producers include Bill Parks, Zach Blair, Matthew Helderman, and Luke Taylor.
